Not to be confused with the Steps classic 5,6,7,8, Hungarian animator Fekti Balázs’ bleak science-fiction film Five, six, seven is a heady mix of neo-noir and steam punk stylings, which combine for a truly jaw-dropping stop motion experience.
Ervin Lazar’s short story the film is based on is a parable of heroically overcoming loneliness and incomprehension. In the rat-race of life fate’s favor or unkindness is the only signpost towards individual redemption. The industrial setting is only an illusion, the essence of the play is the apotheosis ……or death of the hero far removed from time and space.
