The Summer Home - Kris and Lindy Boustedt

With short films obviously limited in their duration, in my eyes it is all the more important they get off to a good start. With time restraints and a saturated market against them, the makers of the films need to understand that if their film doesn’t engage and hook their audience early on, they risk losing them. This is obviously something married filmmaking duo Kris and Lindy Boustedt (aka First Sight Productions) considered with their latest short The Summer Home, which hooks and grips its viewers from the onset with an intriguing and somewhat tense opening. As the narrative unwinds over its 16 minute duration, the intrigue doesn’t dwindle with plenty left of unanswered until the film’s dying moments and a certain amount of unease building with every minute that passes.
