Pays to Know

Instructed by MYPET that the promo for their track Pays to Know should be “a non-narrative, dark, mood piece that incorporates animals”, director Carlos Lopez Estrada (who we featured on the podcast in April with his transmogrification short BEAR) tapped into the band’s lyrical themes and set the promo in a night time forest, teeming with animal and insect life. Contrary to its onscreen location, Pays to Know was actually shot in over five days in Carlos’ house:

We had people in bedrooms filming stop motion, a miniature forest being built in my garage, fish tanks with giant mantises in the kitchen and a kiddy pool filled with metal slime. It was probably the most fun I’ve ever had making a video.

The resulting promo is an enchanting labour of love.
