Actor, turned director Kate Hardie’s film Shoot Me screened as part of the Obsessive and Compulsive shorts programme at this year’s London Film Festival and explores issues of female self-image and ageing. In a brief respite from the hubbub of the festival we spoke to Kate about using comedy as an effective camouflage for issues you want to get across to your audience.
Shoot Me! (2012)
Shoot Me! is about a middle aged actress having her photo taken by a very trendy, youth obsessed fashion photographer. She is very conflicted about it. On one hand she loathes what he stands for – his images are very unrealistic and always very overtly sexual – but on the other she secretly wonders if he can make her feel younger and sexier once again.
People start grimacing or looking really uncomfortable & I think ‘Ah brilliant, we’ve succeeded!”
