In Swedish director Niclas Larsson’s debut short Vatten, a lonely girl discovers a mysterious unconditional love during a late night swim. Niclas joins us to discuss getting his feet wet with underwater filming and his use of ‘silent takes’ to expunge unnecessary dialogue during the edit.

Vatten (2013)

Clara enjoys swimming by herself in the local pool after dark. One night she discovers a secret in this haunting story of young love.

I think you can tell a story in so many ways & you don’t always have to use dialogue.

It looks good, when I watched the trailer I thought it must be a feature film. Slightly disappointed when I found it was a short.

Vatten does run at 30mins so it’s a longer short and certainly makes good use of that time – I think if the trailer drew you the full film wont disappoint.

Is there a link for this film?

  4. MarBelle says:

Not as of yet as I think it’s still travelling the festival circuit.
