Six years ago British director Duane Hopkins demonstrated he was a filmmaker to watch with his debut feature Better Things. Hopkins makes a welcome return to the big screen with his powerful sophomore feature Bypass, in which he looks beyond the sensational tabloid headlines, to explore the lives of the youths forced to forge questionable paths of survival in the face of communities left in economic ruin. We caught up with Hopkins at the London Film Festival to discover more about his hyperreality take on the abandoned classes.
