I’m sure I wasn’t the only one saddened at the announcement that Ryan Bilsborrow-Koo and Zachary Lieberman vehicle, The West Side was going on hiatus, perversely due to Ryan and Zac’s success with the series. Well things have been a little quiet since then and whilst I had no doubt our past guests were hard at work, I was certainly missing their online presence.
Fortunately, a few days ago Ryan relaunched his site nofilmschool, which straight out of the gate is a must see resource for all indie filmmakers out there. With the promise of ‘a new post every day at noon’, Ryan’s already teased a tantilising selection of upcoming articles such as: 12 free tools for Mac creatives, WordPress for filmmakers and Gmail for social creatives. However, the 10,000-word (and growing) feature, The DSLR Cinematography Guide, is more than enough of a reason for you to get over there and add nofilmschool to your RSS reader!
Thanks so much for blogging this, MarBelle.
As it turns out, if we’d stuck with The West Side and our day jobs, we probably would’ve finished the series by now; instead, we’ve been chewed up (though not quite spit out) by the industry. It’s been an interesting experience, but now I’d like to turn the tables on you; since nofilmschool focuses on “independent creatives,” how about answering some interview questions for the site? You’ve been at this awhile and I’m sure others can learn from your engagement and persistence.
No worries, love what you’re doing with the new site.
Errr, now that’s a scary proposition for someone so comfortable on the ‘safe’ side of the mic! Sure, but I fear all I’ll reveal is just how shambolic things are behind the curtain.
