As a modern filmmaker, the days of being specialized in a single field seem quite rare nowadays. The modern filmmaker needs to be part Cameraman, part Director, part Editor, part Soundman, part Web Designer, part Social Networker and part Artist, so it’s never been more important to gather influences from as many realms and mediums as possible.

Here on Directors Notes we’re always trying to find ways to inspire up and coming filmmakers and help them flourish in their art. Whether it’s recommending books, films, music or art to see and share, we feel it’s important to pass on any works that get our creative juices flowing.

One such event that has me awash with ideas is the Decode: Digital Design Sensations exhibition at the V&A, which is running until April 11th.

The exhibition shows the latest developments in digital and interactive design, from small screen based graphics to large-scale installations. Curated in collaboration with leading digital arts organisation onedotzero.

Decode may inspire you to see the future of the music video like James Frost and Aaron Koblin’s interactive Radiohead video or maybe you’ll just get inspiration for the graphics and titles you use in a film or animation.
