Last week’s DN guest Matthias Hoegg clued me into Callum Cooper’s Flicker Works in Development as the subject of A six month portrait of an animator. I’m a big fan time lapse pieces, and here Cooper does that magical thing of taking everyday, ordinary objects we normally ignore (not including Mattias of course, he’s extraordinary) and transforms them into something greater through a series of sequenced pictures. My favourite piece has to be Late for Market, whose series of parked vans become a morphing machine, warp speeding across the markets of Europe.
About the Author / MarBelle
MarBelle has a strange compulsion to watch as many films as he can get his hands on and find jobs that give him a legitimate excuse to drill filmmakers about their work. Directors Notes is the multi-decade incarnation of this disorder and remains so much cheaper than film school.
