Last night Directors Notes headed to the bright lights of London to discover which of the nearly 400 global entries would receive the honour of being crowned as one of eight winners of the coveted Shiny Awards – a joyous celebration of the world’s best emerging directors, selected by a jury network of over 50 of London’s leading production companies, ad agency commissioners and record label commissioners – this year including our very own MarBelle. Not only was it impressive to see such an engaging line up of work from a diverse collection of filmmakers (2 women, 3 people of colour and 3 white men), but to also see DN alums amongst them. Check out the eight prize winning films below:

The Specials Ft. Saffiyah Khan: 10 Commandments – Vasilisa Forbes

Little Monster – Charlotte Regan

Wilson – John Ogunmuyiwa

Fatherhood – Iggy LDN

(Winner of the Audience Award)

Kodaline: Head Held High – James Fitzgerald

if you never answered x – Daniel McKee

Mitski: A Pearl – Art Camp (Saad Moosajee, Santiago Carrasquilla, Jos Diaz Contreras, Danae Gosset)

Tears Dry Gin Tears In Heaven – Bernd Faass

If you’d like to get your work on the Shiny radar then their regular Meet The Commissioner events in London are a must. They’re currently taking entries for the April event, full details here.
