A time honoured tradition, our Reading and Leeds Cinema Tent Shorts programmes pre-date the founding of Directors Notes itself, with a near two decade unbroken run of curated films screening across the August bank holiday for the dual-site festival. At least that was the case until, along with all the innumerable things Covid took from us, so too went the opportunity to screen our shorts selection due to last year’s global shutdown. A shifting public health landscape that has picked off more than its fair share of large scale events did little to curb our worries about having to sit it out for a second year. Thankfully, despite the best efforts of the variants, this weekend will see Reading and Leeds return and with it, our cinema tent collaboration with Film Oxford gets to raise the curtains once again.

Kicking off this evening and running until late Sunday night, it’s a joy to be stepping out into the world with this collection of shorts, crafted by filmmakers we’re mighty proud to count among our DN alum family. And of course, for those of you who won’t be joining us in the festival fields this weekend, you can check the Cinema Tent Shorts right here.
