Back in 2010 Patrick Jean blew us away with Pixels, his 8 bit invasion of New York, which he kindly let us share at our Reading & Leeds festival screenings that year. Today he returns with Motorville, the tale of an American city map – made up of streets, highways and freeways – which ups sticks and travels the globe in a hunt to quench its insatiable thrust for oil. Initially commissioned by Showtime (but not subsequently aired), Jean grabbed vector map data from OpenStreetMaps, then coded and animated his way to an unhappy polemic ending.
About the Author / MarBelle
MarBelle has a strange compulsion to watch as many films as he can get his hands on and find jobs that give him a legitimate excuse to drill filmmakers about their work. Directors Notes is the multi-decade incarnation of this disorder and remains so much cheaper than film school.
