Vimeo Awards 2012 Series

The set of related or thematic videos, released periodically that make up the 4 finalists of the Vimeo awards series category in turn take us on a life changing and deeply emotional journey, expand our horizons, awake our memories and even let dreams take shape.

OFTEN AWESOME THE SERIES BY ALL ACES MEDIA

Being diagnosed with a degenerative disease such as ALS can be one of the most lonely moments in life where the thought of facing the future feels like a crushing weight, but if you’re as fortunate as Tim to have someone like Kaylan by your side every step of the way, then together you can live for the moment and do it in happiness. Winner of the People’s Voice Webby Award, Andy Coon and Blake Faucette’s Often Awesome is first and foremost a story about love, friends, strength and courage.

LITTLE BIG WORLD BY JOERG DAIBER

One of the great draws of tilt-shift photography is that (all puns aside) it gives you a brand new perspective on a place you may have thought you knew intimately, plus the ‘God’s eye view’ of ant like people rushing about their lives is just out and out cool. Joerg Daiber’s series of miniature locations from around the world is a beautiful way to travel the globe, taking in the familiar with the foreign.

M E M O R Y B O X BY BILL NEWSINGER

Call it visual art or poetry, Bill Newsinger’s M E M O R Y B O X surpasses his description of “Random events captured on whatever I have with me at the time“, as it seeps into your cortex and entwines itself into your own experiences, transforming the viewing experience into some kind of mainlining of our collective consciousness. Wow, heavy – I suppose we could just like the pretty pictures.

DREAMSTATES BY OPTION-G / SCENIC CREATIVE

Created for the Sundance Channel, Dreamstates from Greg Tomlinson and Cole Gerst of Option-G, takes that weirdest of human experiences, the dream, and gives it visual form. Just as the source material is rarely bound by laws of logic or structure, Dreamstates freely shifts between animation, motion graphics, archive footage and interviews with its illustrious subjects to translate their dreamworlds into compelling visuals.
