For her directorial debut feature Green, Sophia Takal explores the fraught ground of jealousy and insecurity, and the tricks a mind can play when consumed by both. I joined Sophia and producer/actor Lawrence Michael Levine at SXSW to discuss subverting horror tropes, whilst striking a balance between script and improvisation.

Green (2011)

An intimate friendship between two women dissolves as they are drawn into an irrational, destructive spiral of jealousy and paranoid fantasy in this haunting examination of the female psyche.

I think that jealousy is really scary, frightening and horrific […] I wanted the tone to reflect the inside of someone who’s jealous but I wanted the plot to reflect real life.
